The US Army in Europe faced a major challenge to deliver scenario based training to armed forces stationed in southern Germany.

THE CHALLENGE

The US Army required over 1,200 civilian contractors to simulate the challenging environment their forces will face when deployed in theatre. The US Army needed these recruits to be multilingual to recreate an authentic environment which required thebigword to conduct language testing, as well as obtain a police report for each applicant in order to confirm their identity and ensure they were clear to gain access to a military base.

THE SOLUTION

To engage with thousands of potential applicants thebigword utilised targeted social media advertising, created a custom web address to capture leads and organised multiple workshops with former role-players. In order to manage high volume of applicants, thebigword constructed a three stage recruitment process whereby applicants were encouraged to proactively obtain the relevant language testing and police security checks before progressing to the next stage.

CASE STUDY HIGHLIGHTS

•Recruited 1,200 multilingual amateur role-players in 9 weeks.

•Implemented a streamlined 3-stage recruitment process to ensure identity, test language skills & assess security risk.

•Managed two rotations of over 200 role-players at a time living onsite in Germany from out of country.

FEEDBACK

“A herculean effort from thebigword, from signing the contract to first rotation in just 9 weeks the team pulled all stops.” US Army training centre, South Germany
