Global technology-driven language communications company, thebigword, has announced its charity of the year will be the International Rescue Community (IRC).
Over the next 12 months, the 600 strong staff team at thebigword will be taking part in various activities to raise funds for the vital work the IRC carries out across the globe.
IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries, IRC teams provide health care, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries, with special programs designed for women and children.
The global language business has also showed its support of the Armed Forces with a donation to one of the longest serving national tri-service military charities, SSAfa. In the week of its annual conference, thebigword donated 1.6 cents for every minute of spoken interpretation completed by its interpretation team, raising an more than $3,200 for the charity which provides lifelong support for armed forces and their families.

However, we wanted to select a specific global charity which truly reflects the work we do as an international business. The IRC carries out vital work and I’m excited to see all thebigword staff pull together over the next 12 months to raise as much money as possible for the work of the IRC.
“We’re the only language provider in Europe with a dedicated language defence division, working on the ground with troops in countries such as Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iraq to provide crucial interpretation and communication support, so we felt it was important to also show our gratitude to our dedicated service men and women. It was an honour to be able to raise money for, and support SSAfa.”
