thebigword Recruits for its Defence, Justice and International Security Division

h3. thebigword, the world’s 12th largest translation and interpreting company, is expanding its Defence, Justice and International Security (DJIS) Division.

The Division, which already provides interpreters to support UK operations in Afghanistan, is heading for 200 per cent growth with a number of major contracts expected to start during the coming 12 months.

The latest addition to the DJIS Division, which is currently recruiting ex-military personnel to support its growth, is John Dean, who completed his military career as a Captain in the Mercian Regiment. John studied Pashto and Afghan culture at DSL (Defence School of Language) and was attached to a Humint unit providing linguistic capabilities to the unit and human terrain mapping for a year in theatre. John also served two tours of Iraq on Op Telic providing basic patrol language to his Reconnaissance Platoon and establishing his interest and enthusiasm for the culture. John has carried this language ability and cultural understanding through to thebigword contracts, where he is providing a bridge between the linguists, thebigword and its military clients’ requirements.

thebigword’s DJIS Division offers the most secure language service technology available with Security Cleared (SC) personnel managing the operation. In partnership with the International School of Linguists, it provides the most robust training and defence-specific language assessments in the industry, which are aligned to recognised MOD standards.

A Division of thebigword, the top-12 global Language Service Provider, the DJIS is supported by an in-house team of more than 500 staff working with 10,000 qualified linguists in nine centres across the globe including operations in Afghanistan and Turkey. The DJIS can provide translation and interpreting in more than 200 languages and 1,200 language combinations, making its service provision the most varied available in today’s market.

David Capper, Divisional Director for the Defence, Justice and International Security Division, says: “We’re delighted to welcome John Dean to a team that has broad and deep experience of interpreting and translation requirements within sensitive and secure environments. We are able to call on some of the country’s most senior military specialists to advise on and support our contracts for the Ministry of Defence working with multilingual populations both in-country and in theatre.”
