thebigword has promoted Mark Daley to the role of global operations director and board member.

Mr Daley, 45, joined the language services provider as head of translation operations in August 2014.

He has since taken responsibility for the group’s global translation, interpreting and human resource teams as operations director.

Mr Daley played a key role in the successful implementation of the £120m Ministry of Justice contract, which added 40 per cent to group revenues.

He also helped to increase profit margins, improve operational efficiencies, rollout new technologies, reduce staff turnover and develop the careers of his colleagues.

Mr Daley said: “At thebigword, it is our mission to break down the language barrier for the benefit of businesses and communities.

“We are driving operational excellence in our translation, interpreting and technology teams.

“We are perfectly placed to take advantage of the multi-billion dollar growth opportunity in the global language services market.”

Mr Daley previously held senior roles at Capita and GE Money.

Larry Gould, the chief executive and founder, said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark Daley to the board as global operations director.

“He brings ambition, energy and attention to detail, which will help us achieve our ambitions to become a top five player in our $40bn sector.”

Mr Daley lives in Doncaster and started his career at J Sainsbury and Thomas Cook Group.

Outside work, he enjoys hiking, running, theatre, music and socialising.

Last month, thebigword appointed Paul Evans as global sales director, further strengthening its board.

The Leeds-based group has 10 offices across the world, including New York, Dusseldorf, Beijing and Tokyo, a workforce of 600 people and a network of 14,000 expert linguists.

Revenues increased to £60m in the year ending May 2017.
