United through our differences, empowered by Inclusion

thebigword’s mission is to drive transformation through our unwavering commitment to breaking barriers, ensuring that diversity, equality and inclusion seamlessly impact every part of our operations. This spans from our engagement with clients, linguists and communities, to the very core of our technological advancements. Most crucially, we want our teams to feel they belong, which translates to creating a space where everyone can be themselves at work and where it’s easy for others to do the same.

At the heart of thebigword group’s core values lies a strong commitment to fostering a workforce that thrives on diversity, inclusivity and equality.

Our pursuit of excellence extends beyond language services; it encompasses the creation of a harmonious and empowering workplace where every individual’s uniqueness is celebrated and leveraged.

We believe that by uniting diverse backgrounds, beliefs, abilities and experiences, we forge an environment in which all employees are valued contributors, collaborating to achieve meaningful outcomes.

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Together, we shall stand as advocates for diversity, champions of inclusion and pioneers of equality, striving to make our workplace an inspiring model for organisations far and wide.

As an equal opportunity employer, thebigword embodies a culture of belonging where every team member can bring their true self to work and stand firmly against discrimination in any form.

To ensure this we have a dedicated Equality, Diversity & Inclusion committee which includes people from different geographies including the UK, The Netherlands and India, who all have different backgrounds and lived experiences. In addition to this our Senior Leadership Team is also diverse by gender, sexual orientation, neurodivergence, nationality and race.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we introduce to you our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee – a dedicated group of individuals, all from diverse and different backgrounds, committed to driving positive change, nurturing an atmosphere of belonging, and championing our global workforce.

Our EDI Committee embodies the ethos that every individual, irrespective of their background, orientation, abilities, or identity, has the right to thrive within our organisation. With a firm belief that diverse perspectives lead to enhanced creativity, innovation, and problem-solving, the committee endeavours to forge a culture where everyone’s unique voice is not only heard but celebrated.

Gazal Malaiya – Chairwoman of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee (India)

Gazal has over 15 years of total experience in HR and heads the HR function for our India office. She believes in cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusion for solving systemic issues and making an impact for our workforce, clients, our industry and society. As a member of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee she aims at driving social impact, across the organisation and
beyond.

Steve Barton, Head of Global Bids (UK)

Steve’s experience working alongside a wide range of people at thebigword was one of the principal reasons he wanted to join the EDI Committee. He firmly believes that thebigword has always been a very welcoming and inclusive place to work, but feels you can “never take your foot off the pedal” – there is always room to develop and improve. Steve is looking forward to collaborating with his fellow Committee members to drive thebigword’s EDI approach forward and celebrate our diverse and unique international community!

Anoeska Nairan, Senior Recruiter (Netherlands)

As a member of the EDI committee, Anoeska wants to help build a solid foundation, where all employees can feel welcome to come to for support or guidance. She is passionate in her stance of: “Everyone is equal and equally
valuable” and wants to use her experience in her role within thebigword, as a member of the CSR committee and in her day-to-day life to make sure everybody working at thebigword feels that way.

Sheila Nash, Customer Service Coordinator (UK)

The importance of EDI to Sheila is for everyone to be treated fairly and equally, a main contributor in her decision to join the committee. She wants to support thebigword by adding her knowledge and experience gathered in her past 6.5 years at the company and to support the company mission to make sure every employee and future employee feels valued and important in the workplace.
